The deep red dial of this design is inspired by summer’s morning glow of sunrise over the Hotaka mountain peaks – near to Japan’s Shinshu Watch Studio, birthplace of Spring Drive. The black ceramic bezel resembles the steep rock face whilst silver-toned hands coated in Lumibrite are enclosed in dual-curved sapphire crystal. Its GMT function tracks two time zones simultaneously, the power reserve indicator demonstrates the status of the battery charge and its date function is at 4 o’clock.
Spring Drive powered timepieces mark the smooth passing of time with their lack of juddering tick – designed to emulate the natural progression of one moment into the next. This timepiece is powered by an in-house 9R66 Spring Drive calibre, providing a seamless sweep of the second hand. Accurate to +/-15 seconds per month, it has has a three-day power reserve.
‘The Nature of Time’ theme features prominently in Grand Seiko watch designs – a Japanese spirituality where each moment is a unique expression unveiled through light and shadow. The watchmakers’ pride in their surroundings is represented from engineering watch movements, to creating dials reflecting the beauty of Japanese nature.
